Taal Volcano

Taal Volcano is a complex volcano located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It is the second most active volcano in the Philippines with 33 historical eruptions. All of these eruptions are concentrated on Volcano Island, an island near the middle of Taal Lake. The lake partially fills Taal Caldera, which was formed by prehistoric eruptions between 140,000 and 5,380 BP. Viewed from Tagaytay Ridge, Taal Volcano and Lake presents one of the most picturesque and attractive views in the Philippines.

Basilica de San Martin of Tours

The Taal Basilica canonically known as the Minor Basilica of Saint Martin of Tours is a Minor Basilica in the town of Taal, Batangas in the Philippines, within the Archdiocese of Lipa. It is considered to be the largest church in the Philippines and in Asia, standing 88.6 metres (291 ft) long and 48 metres (157 ft) wide. St. Martin of Tours is the patron saint of Taal, whose fiesta is celebrated every November 11.

Don Leon Apacible Museum

Leon Apacible Historical Landmark or Apacible Museum is an ancestral home turned museum located in Taal, Batangas. It showcases the collection of heirlooms and memorabilia belonging to Leon and Matilde Apacible’s family. These include household items and furniture. Centuries-old artifacts found in the Batangas area and relics of historical events are also displayed here.

Dona Marcela Agoncillo Museum

The house is one of Taal’s oldest, built in the late 17th century by Marcela’s grandfather Andres Mariño. It was in this house that the first Philippine flag was sewn by hand by Marcella Agoncillo. With the heirs donating the property to the national government, it is presently being maintained by the Department of Tourism.

Villa Tortuga

This ancestral home restored by eminent fashion designer Lito Perez, sits by the Pansipit River. A gift shop and photo studio, housing a collection of period costumes for use and fun pictorials, are on the ground floor. Tours, turn-of-the-century-inspired meals and nightly accommodations are by arrangement.

Rationale

The mission of development finance institutions (DFIs), or interchangeably referred to as development banks, as special policy institutions, have not changed since they were mostly created more than 50 years ago, i.e., to provide access to finance and technical assistance to strategic, unserved and priority projects deemed necessary for a country’s sustainable economic development. But while their mission remained the same, their organizational structures, both in governance and management, as well as approaches to development lending, have evolved amidst the changing times.

Against this backdrop, board members and chief executives of DFIs have to be ever vigilant and innovative and to work closely together to strike a balance for their institutions’ mission fulfillment and sustainability into the future.

It is in this context that ADFIAP is organizing this year’s CEO Forum XI for its member-DFIs’ governance and management leaders to: (a) share and learn from each other their practices, challenges and ideas on governing and leading their respective institutions; and, (b) provide their thoughts and perspectives on future trends in governance and management of DFIs.

Forum Structure

The conference is organized in a way that will allow delegates to learn from each others’ experiences through speaker presentations of best practices and challenges on the theme and through personal interaction among delegates and speakers and among delegates themselves.

Panel speakers for each session will take turns to share the experiences of their respective institutions and countries. Each session will be facilitated by a Session Chair who will introduce the session and the panelists, and to be capped by a Q&A. Speakers will be sourced from among the attending members’ delegates, from ADFIAP international partners and contacts as well as from recommendations received.
